Suyama Peterson Deguchi

Our Seattle-based practice was founded in 1971 by George Suyama, FAIA, and quickly earned recognition for innovative designs that draw from the rich traditions of Japanese and Northwest Contemporary architecture. Our internationally published work is defined by a mastery of scale and proportion, sophisticated detailing, and a restrained material palette. Our practice integrates three components: architectural and interior design, our retail shop 3×10, and a boutique construction company.

For over fifty years, we have designed architecture that addresses fundamental, primal human needs in a poetic manner – creating highly-crafted spaces that evoke a quiet, emotional response.  Our goal for each project is to establish a profound sense of place using the fewest number of parts.  Our architecture has nuance, depth, and richness that offers calm relief and a lasting sense of tranquility.  There is an inherent sense of authenticity, integrity, and appropriateness in our work; we create places that draw you in, move you, and elicit a visceral response.

We intentionally remain a modestly sized team.  This allows us to cultivate deeply personal relationships with our clients throughout both the design and construction phases. Our firm’s partners are intimately engaged in every phase of a project, from initial conception to completion and beyond, guiding each client through a journey that is unique.
